China accounted for over 18 per cent of the global economy in 2021 compared to 11.4 per cent in 2012, according to Han Wenxiu, a senior official with the country’s central committee for financial and economic affairs, who said the country's gross domestic products (GDP) topped 114 trillion yuan ($16.94 trillion) last year, and per capita GDP reached $12,500.

Han said China has both cemented and improved its status as the world's second-largest economy over the past decade.

The contribution of China's economic growth to the world economy has stood at around 30 per cent in recent years, making it the largest growth engine for the global economy, he was quoted as saying by an official news agency.
